some Quotations

"NLP may be the most powerful vehicle for change in existence."

Modern Psychology Magazine

“…hypnosis is not mind control. It's a naturally occurring state of concentration; It's actually a means of enhancing your control over both your mind and your body.”

Dr. David Spiegel, Assoc. Chair of Psychiatry
Stanford University School of Medicine

“Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit.”

New Scientist Magazine

"Remember, it's your own body, your own brain. You're not a victim of the universe, you are the universe."

Richard Bandler, Co-founder of NLP

what therapies are used?

Different problems need different solutions, and I have a wide range of tools at my disposal to benefit the vast majority of clients. Indeed the only people who cannot benefit from hypnotherapy in some way are the mentally handicapped, those suffering from certain conditions such as schizophrenia or bi-polar disorder, and those who for one reason or another simply refuse to co-operate!

Put simply, analytical (regression) therapy accesses and deals with problems rooted in the past, NLP and CBT techniques can deal with problems in the present emotional state, and NLP, solution focussed therapy and life coaching present solutions for future change. I would normally use a seamless combination of all these approaches during a course of therapy.

"Every person's map of the world is as unique as their thumbprint. There are no two people alike. No two people who understand the same sentence the same way... So in dealing with people, you try not to fit them to your concept of what they should be." - Milton H Erickson MD, Psychiatrist and Hypnotherapist

More details of the different approaches I use can be found by reading on and by clicking on the relevant links below:

solution focussed hypnotherapy

Solution Focussed Hypnotherapy, commonly called "Suggestion therapy", works well with the simpler problems such as smoking, nail-biting, exam stress, (some) weight problems, confidence and memory boosting, sports performance, public speaking and fear of flying.

It normally takes just one to four sessions.

analytical hypnotherapy

Briefly, this therapy finds the root cause of the problem or the symptom and removes it, the doctrine of “Cause and Effect”. Analysis reveals the cause and subsequently removes the symptoms. You realise where your problem or symptom comes from, and with that realisation comes the cure from within yourself.

The moment of liberating enlightenment may come usually around session six. However, there are normally 8-12 sessions required in this therapy and the release, in all probability, will occur during that time. The first consultation is concerned with identifying your symptoms and planning a course of treatment.

Clients interested in analytical therapy are entitled to a free introductory session (40 minutes) during which the process is explained thoroughly by your therapist. This is entirely without obligation.

neuro-linguistic programming (nlp)

Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP is a set of therapeutic techniques which we can use to change thought patterns and behaviours. It has its origins in the study of the world's most effective therapists, including gestalt therapist Fritz Perls, the innovative family therapist Virginia Satir and in particular the father of modern hypnotherapy, psychiatrist Dr Milton H Erickson. Commonalities and differences were found amongst these great people changers and the secrets of the language patterns and thought patterns they used were distilled. What came out of these studies was in my opinion, a set of tools from which change can occur more quickly and easily than ever thought possible.

The field of NLP has gone past these initial accomplishments to study the patterns, behaviours and beliefs of successful business people and those with rewarding relationships - of people that maintain their correct weight easily and of incredibly persuasive people. What NLP has found is that people that succeed all use the same kind of techniques to communicate with themselves and others! They have the same "mental tool set" that we all have, they just use them in different ways.

NLP makes use of this "communication with yourself" to help you make change more easily, to get what you want. An NLP Master Practitioner can help you to use this power to the benefit of yourself and others.

cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is based on the idea that how we think (cognition), how we act (behaviour), how we feel (emotion) and what is happening in our bodies (physiology) all interact together. Specifically, our thoughts strongly influence our feelings and our behaviour; therefore unhelpful, negative and unrealistic thoughts can be a major source of distress.

life coaching

Coaching is not therapy, but is mentioned here because a course of therapy usually incorporates some coaching, as the client becomes free of the past and empowered in the present, it is only natural to extrapolate the process into future goals.
