analytical hypnotherapy (hypno-analysis)

Analytical Hypnotherapy, also called hypno-analysis, seeks to find the root cause of a problem. Age regression techniques are used to find the event that was the original cause of the symptom, and when this is found and dealt with, the symptom disappears, and the change is permanent.

Cause and effect

The underlying theory behind this approach is the removal of the cause, which in turn removes the unwanted effect of that cause. In this way it differs fundamentally from the solution-focussed (suggestion) approach of traditional hypnotherapy.

While solution-focussed therapy can effectively remove a symptom, analytical hypnotherapy looks beyond the symptom for the root cause of the problem. It is always indicated where an underlying anxiety is present, as this is inevitably indicative of a deeper rooted problem. Simple suggestion work is not a long-term answer, as the symptom can be suggested away, only for another one to take its place if the root cause of the problem is not addressed.

Underlying Anxiety

Sometimes the symptom a client presents with is merely a habit, the most common examples being smoking or nail-biting. These cases are often treated easily by solution-focussed therapy. Often though, the client's perceived problem is only the visible symptom of an underlying anxiety and in these cases analytical therapy is the best approach to ensure a permanent resolution. A common example is "comfort" eating - simply suggesting away the desire to eat will not work, as it does not address the real problem - the need for "comfort".

Symptoms differ from person to person because we all handle situations differently, and so one 'underlying' anxiety might cause one set of symptoms in one person, and a completely different set of symptoms in another person. Read more about anxiety conditions by clicking here.

One of the biggest benefits of analytical hypnotherapy, is that once the 'underlying' anxiety (the 'cause') is eliminated, ALL of the associated symptoms (the 'effects') are eliminated too. This means that hypno-analysis can often help a far wider range of issues than the client originally expected!

Analytical Hypnotherapy is a course of therapy.

Analytical hypnotherapy is not a quick-fix, but it is a permanent one. Therapy is not the same as counselling. You and I are both working to make the changes you want. It takes a certain amount of commitment from you in terms of time and effort, and finance, as well as self-discipline. If you are considering analytical hypnotherapy, you must take advantage of a free introductory consultation  so that I can explain the process in detail, and of course, so that you can be sure you feel comfortable working with me.

Analytical hypnotherapy is not a 'passive' therapy... it's a very involving process and can be very absorbing and incredibly interesting. You will learn more about yourself, and the way you think, than you ever thought possible.

It can be very rewarding and the gains can be immense. It can literally change your life.

Analytical Hypnotherapy can successfully treat...

Smoking, Panic attacks, Nightmares, Exam Nerves, Confidence, Concentration, Slimming, Stress, Phobias, Sexual problems, Public speaking, Memory, Relaxation, Headaches, Nervousness, Feelings of guilt, Independence, Addictions, Eating disorders, Substance abuse, Delayed stress syndrome,  Pain control, Twitching, Fetishes, Inhibitions, Self esteem, Temper Control, Shame, Allergies, Migraine, Asthma, Claustrophobia, Motivation, Frustrations, Depression, Decision making, Dental anxiety, Tinnitus, Enuresis (Bed wetting), Fears, Compulsions, Some skin disorders, Drinking, Insomnia, Creativity, Travel fear, Impotence, Sports motivation, Nail-biting, Stuttering, Shyness, Blushing, Sales Improvement, Procrastination, Menstrual Tension, Fear of childbirth, Blood pressure, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Health improvement, Emotional problems or any other problem of a psychosomatic nature (caused by the mind).

How the course of therapy is constructed

Session one is primarily concerned with establishing the precise details of the client's condition as well as the important task of defining the exact outcome the client wishes to gain from therapy. At this stage some simple hypnotic relaxation techniques are taught in order to help the client clearly visualise that desired outcome. The session is usually concluded with a brief, deeper trance experience by way of an introduction for those who haven't experienced hypnosis before. This session takes about 90 minutes.

In session two the information provided by the client is used to produce a personalised CD recording for the client's use. This serves the multiple purposes of providing positive suggestions to alleviate symtoms (see solution focussed therapy), to provide trance experience on a regular basis so that the client becomes accustomed to the trance state thus enabling him/her to enter trance more quickly and deeply on subsequent sessions, and lastly and most importantly it is designed to send the subconscious mind searching for the root cause of the client's symptoms. This session takes about 40 minutes.

Subsequent sessions are hypnotic in nature and the client is invited to re-visit memories, which are freely associated to one another by the client. This is the natural way the deeper mind links and connects information, and by using the hypnotic state to keep the conscious mind relaxed and occupied elsewhere, it is the most rapid way to find and access the root cause of the symptoms. These sessions are usually about 50 minutes in length.

Note: Clients suffering from depression may require extra sessions of cognitive behavioural therapy and/or solution-focussed hypnotherapy to prepare them for hypno-analysis.

Free introductory consultation

If you are considering analytical therapy, it is essential that you avail of the offer of a free introductory consultation (about 40 minutes) so that the process can be explained in detail and in person. It also gives you a chance to meet your therapist, as it's obviously very important that you feel a comfortable state of rapport during sessions. The introductory talk is completely without obligation. Call 021 487 6072.
